Planning a 🏖️Holiday🏖️ in Spain🇪🇸? Why a Tourist Licence Matters to YOU!

Advice from Martin Lewis the Money Saving Expert

Martin Lewis recently wrote an excellent piece about the importance of buying travel insurance to protect yourself the moment that you book your holiday, great advice.

This blog explains why this advice is equally as important especially for the Valencian region of Spain that includes the Costa Blanca from Denia in the north to Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa in the south.

All properties by law must be registered with the authorities, display an official plaque, and register their guests over the age of 16 with the Police. Failure to do any of these things is a serious offence and the homeowner can be fined up to 100,000 euros as well as other penalties.

Why is it important to me as a holidaymaker if the apartment, villa, house isn’t registered.

  1. It may be a scam property.

  2. The insurance for the property may not be valid meaning if you have any issues at the property or any accidents in the property, there's a possibility you are not covered.

  3. The police can shut the property down when you are staying there, and you could be forced to leave the property.

  4. The property owners could be taking other shortcuts with regard to electrical, gas and water fittings that could affect your safety and so on….

  5. It is an illegal holiday property.

I am not saying that all properties with a Tourist Licence are wonderful and worth staying in. What I am saying is that with a Tourist Licence, you know a holiday property is legally registered and a safer bet for you the holiday maker to stay.

Should you have a problem there is a quick and easy way to register a complaint and be confident that it will be looked at independently and you will be looked after properly.

All registered holiday properties by law must have a “complaints book”. This is an official book and if you make a complaint using this system it will be logged and investigated.

Remember:

If there’s no tourist licence there’ll be no complaints book – so you're not protected!

Another word of warning

Some holiday letting companies are stating that Tourist Licences are not required for individual properties they manage. They also state that if you use their services then somehow “by magic” they have a 'special licence', and everything will be okay.

This is not true, ask them to put it in writing for you and underwrite any potential issues! They won’t!!

Please do contact me, Daniel Rogoff if you have any questions and want to know more. I'm always happy to help if I can.
